Talkaoke afternoon session at the Port Eliot Literary festival, Port Elio, July 2005
July 25, 2005 by The People Speak
Finally getting going and out of the rain, this Talkaoke session is once again kicked off by younger conversationalists lording it over the conversation asking which is the best Lord? Lord of the Rings, Lord of the flies, Lord of the dance?
The repartee eventually matures into haggling over coolness and insecurity, and the exploitation of young people and youth culture by the advertising and marketing industries, inevitably bringing up the group's concerns with George Bush. Why does he have all the power and money anyway?
Also between the hammer and anvil of conversation: the medium of language itself. Why can't we communicate properly? Or write the way we speak, is it the fault of the National Curriculum? Could it be something to do with our educational institutions and the relationship between students and pupils.
Final thoughts: Everyone is a genius in their own way.
